The Assistant Director General of Shipping functions as head of assigned branches of the Directorate, executing orders per Government rules; supervises and controls the branch and its staff; assists Joint/Deputy Director General in policy matters related to shipping and maritime education/training; may act as Head of Office/Drawing & Disbursing Officer; initiates implementation of policies for development of shipping and promotion of training; processes public representations; initiates framing of recruitment rules and personnel matters; processes pension cases; and performs any other work assigned by superiors.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Classification: General Central Service, Group ‘A’, Gazetted, Non‑Ministerial.
  • Educational qualification (essential): Degree of a recognized University or equivalent.
  • Experience (essential): 05 years’ experience in Administration and establishment matters.
  • Desirable: Degree in Law; knowledge of Merchant Shipping laws and regulation of sailing vessels/traffic under sails.
  • Deputation service eligibility: Analogous post OR 5 years in Level‑10 (GP 5400 pre‑rev) OR 6 years in Level‑08 (GP 4800) OR 7 years in Level‑07 (GP 4600) and possessing essential qualifications/experience for direct recruits.

Age Limitations:

  • Maximum age (deputation): Not exceeding 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.

Salary Details

> Salary Range: ₹67,700 - ₹2,08,700 Monthly

> Grade Pay: ₹GP Rs 6,600 (pre‑revised)

Certificate of vigilance status.
4. Penalty statement:
Statement of major/minor penalties imposed during the last 10 years, and certificate that no disciplinary proceedings are pending/contemplated.
5. Verification certificate:
Certificate that the particulars furnished by the candidate have been verified and found correct as per service records.
