Role covers technical/regulatory work in the Directorate General of Shipping and Mercantile Marine Departments, including: scrutiny and approval of Trim & Stability, Damage Stability, Grain Stability, Tonnage computations/plans (including Suez and Panama Canal tonnage), Crew Accommodation plans, Loading and Cargo Securing Manual, Structural Fire Protection, Ventilation and Piping plans; examination of Load Line documents, freeboard computations, strength and stability for Government of India Load Line assignment; scrutiny and prototype approval of Life Boat, Rescue Boat and Life Raft designs/plans; ISM audits of Indian ships and companies; examination of SAFCON, Load Line and CAS survey files; monitoring/review of CAS surveys and final reports; inspection, tests and trials of Life Boat/Rescue Boat prototypes; approval of insulation, paneling, flooring materials and fire class doors; monitoring PSC/FSI activities of MMDs and analyzing PSC/FSI inspection reports (including Indian ships inspected abroad); upkeep of PSC/FSI inspection database; investigation of Indian ships detained under PSC/FSI and initiating follow-up with companies and PSC authorities; and FSI inspection of ships detained under Port State Control.

- Educational qualification: Degree in Naval Architecture from a recognized University.
- Experience: Three years practical experience in ship design/construction/survey/repairs after the degree in shipbuilding/ship-repair yards or design/survey organizations.
- Deputation grade/service length: Analogous posts on regular basis OR 5 years’ regular service in Rs. 8000–13500 (or equivalent).
Age Limitations:
- Maximum age (deputation): Not exceeding 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
Salary Details
> Salary Range: ₹78,800 - ₹2,09,200 Monthly
> Grade Pay: ₹Grade Pay Rs. 7600 (pre-revised PB-3 Rs. 15600–39100)
