How to Apply
- 1. Create account and URN:
- Create an account on the new UPSC Online portal and generate a Universal Registration Number (URN).
- 2. Fill Common Application Form:
- Complete the Common Application Form (CAF) and upload required documents; details cannot be changed after submission.
- 3. Fill Exam-Specific Form:
- After CAF, fill the ESE 2026 exam-specific form within the application window and select centre and discipline carefully.
- 4. Fee payment:
- Pay ₹200 (if applicable) via SBI branch, cards, UPI or net-banking and submit the form.
- 5. Single application:
- Submit only one application; if multiple are submitted, only the application with the higher RID will be accepted.
- 6. No withdrawal:
- Applications cannot be withdrawn after submission.
Exam Pattern
- 1. Preliminary (Stage‑I):
- Two objective papers — Paper‑I (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude) 2 hours, 200 marks; Paper‑II (Engineering Discipline) 3 hours, 300 marks. Negative marking applies.
- 2. Main (Stage‑II):
- Two conventional papers in the Engineering discipline, each of 3 hours and 300 marks (total 600 marks).

How to Apply
- 1. Create account and URN:
- Create an account on the new UPSC Online portal and generate a Universal Registration Number (URN).
- 2. Fill Common Application Form:
- Complete the Common Application Form (CAF) and upload required documents; details cannot be changed after submission.
- 3. Fill Exam-Specific Form:
- After CAF, fill the ESE 2026 exam-specific form within the application window and select centre and discipline carefully.
- 4. Fee payment:
- Pay ₹200 (if applicable) via SBI branch, cards, UPI or net-banking and submit the form.
- 5. Single application:
- Submit only one application; if multiple are submitted, only the application with the higher RID will be accepted.
- 6. No withdrawal:
- Applications cannot be withdrawn after submission.
Exam Pattern
- 1. Preliminary (Stage‑I):
- Two objective papers — Paper‑I (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude) 2 hours, 200 marks; Paper‑II (Engineering Discipline) 3 hours, 300 marks. Negative marking applies.
- 2. Main (Stage‑II):
- Two conventional papers in the Engineering discipline, each of 3 hours and 300 marks (total 600 marks).
- 3. Personality Test (Stage‑III):
- 200 marks; final ranking is based on Stage‑I + Stage‑II + Stage‑III marks.
- 4. Calculator rule:
- Battery-operated pocket calculators permitted only in conventional (Main) papers; not allowed in objective (Prelim) papers.

- Current issues; reasoning and analytical ability; engineering mathematics; design/drawing/safety; standards & quality; energy & environment; project management; material science; ICT; ethics in engineering (Section III of the Notice).

Selection Process
- 1. Selection Stages:
- The selection process consists of three rigorous stages: Preliminary, Main, and Personality Test (Interview). Each stage evaluates the candidates' knowledge, analytical skills, and overall aptitude for engineering service roles.
- 2. Preliminary Examination:
- The Preliminary exam comprises two objective-type papers: General Studies and Engineering Aptitude and Engineering Discipline. This is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Main exam.
- 3. Main Examination:
- The Main exam consists of two conventional type papers in the chosen engineering discipline. This is a written examination testing in-depth subject knowledge and understanding.
- 4. Personality Test (Interview):
- The final stage is an interview where candidates are assessed on their personality, decision-making skills, leadership abilities, and general awareness. This stage is crucial for final selection.
Admit Card Details
- 1. Release schedule:
- e‑Admission Certificate will be available on the last working day of the week preceding the exam date on www.upsc.gov.in; not sent by post.
- 2. Download parameters:
- Use RID & Date of Birth or Roll No. & Date of Birth/Father’s Name to download.

Disqualification Criteria

Probation Period
- 1. Probation Terms:
